Lyn Lake Street Festival and 3rd Annual Rides of Spring 2011
Sunday May 15th, 2011 Noon to 7 pm
Bigger, better, and back to it’s original location along a two block stretch of Lyndale between 28th St and Lake Street, it’s the third year for the rebirth of a Lyn Lake tradition. It’s time to celebrate the long Quick read more or view full article overdue start of spring, with biking, music, artists, craft persons, art cars and businesses welcoming each other in Lyn Lake style including Lyn Lake Chiropractic one of our great sponsors.
With the Blaisdell YMCA supplying the event insurance and the majority of the 90-plus volunteers, over 25 businesses supplying financial support in the form of sponsorships, the Lyn Lake Street Fest continues to grow and take its place as a free-wheeling day of celebration of the start of spring in the vibrant heart of South Minneapolis.
Start the day and take part in the Blaisdell YMCA’s Rides of Spring. This year’s event has a different feel and flavor as a way to test the bikes, brains and brawn of bike riders in a self directed urban goose chase, with several event stations with competitive tasks to complete at each of the top secret locations. Riders will attempt to reach all the stops to qualify for a drawing for a free year’s membership to the Y, or can opt to complete fewer stops and enter to win three month memberships and many other prizes. The ride is timed to finish at 12 noon at Lyndale and Lake for the start of the Lyn Lake Street Fest. Rider’s meals, raffles and prizes awarded will occur at the Lyn Lake Festival’s dedicated bike corral, supported by local restaurants and Summit Beer Company.
With the increased footprint for the festival, there will be numerous artists and craft booths, and more local restaurants like Herkimers, Moto I, Galactic Pizza, Falafel King and others serving up street food. The art car community will be out in full force. The Trustone Financial parking lot is hosting a wide variety of family friendly children’s activities. Jugglers and Renaissance performers will also entertain through out the event.
Their will be two music stages this year, with the main stage on the bridge across the Midtown Greenway, and a second stage in front of Ducati Minneapolis on 28th. Five bands, including Koo Koo Kangaroo, Black Blondie, Peter Wolf Crier, Haley Bonar and Heiruspecs will play the main stage. Four more bands, Honeystick, Chelsea Boys, Hastings 3000, and Phantom Tails are scheduled for the Uptown VFW Stage. Look to the music page on this website for time schedules and details.
This dual event is the brainchild of John Meegan, owner of Top Shelf at 31st and Lyndale. John is a board member of the Lyn Lake Business Association, and also the volunteer community board chair of the Blaisdell YMCA in South Minneapolis. This year he is co-chaired by Hilari Bandow, marketing director for the James Ballantine VFW. Music booking has been graciously donated by Indie Music Resources.
The event is a fundraiser. In 2010, the Festival generated over $16,000 for the YMCA and the Lyn Lake Business Association, and over $2,100 in tips from the beer booth was donated to the Joyce Food Shelf.
Lyn Lake Chiropractic would like to have you support our community and bring your friends and family!
